You were a friend of sinners that the religious people rejected. You welcomed the lame, the blind, the broken. You welcomed conversation with the Samaritan woman. You welcome those who seek you with a kindness and gentleness that wins souls. May I be worthy of the trust placed in me May all who assemble to celebrate our common faith in the Risen Savior Give me your strength to support my fellow ministers. I want to help them to experience your presence. I will bless each guest and member who walks into our church. May the kindness I show help everyone who enters today be at peace. May the kindness I share help a person calm down from a stressful morning,Ī nervous first time visitor to feel safe,Īnd share an expression of Your love for someone who needs it today. I am inspired to Usher because I love to see the smiles on the people’s faces as I help them. I am inspired to Usher because I love to help the older saints when they have a need. What inspires me to serve is the feeling of happiness that comes when helping others. What inspires me is knowing that I am serving the Lord and enjoying this ministry. I was inspired as a child watching the senior ushers at my aunt’s church. That is the beginning of over 40 years of service to the Lord. My Aunt Carrie was an usher and she encouraged me to usher during our youth hour services. I’ve ushered off and on 60 years of my 76 years. I was inspired years ago as a child watching my great uncle usher. Observing Brother Hillman working with the Junior ushers God touched my heart and showed me that’s where I needed to be – Derrick Y. Langley Avenue Ushers celebrate 50 years by reflecting on the question…What inspires you to serve as an usher? is 9 years old and he is a dedicated young man that is eager to serve and learn. Mother Lillian Beed at 96 years old is the oldest usher and we love her steadfast faithfulness and support. We recognize our oldest and youngest ushers.
